CREATOR + FOUNDER

Alona Lisa is the creator of the Heart of David. She's a brand marketer, designer, and entrepreneur and has won awards both for her art and for her agency work, including a coveted Emmy nomination. And she’s no stranger to jewelry design, having created her first jewelry collection post-college and then selling it to Henri Bendel, the iconic NYC department store.

Yet, designing the Heart of David is Alona’s proudest accomplishment. As the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors and exiled Moroccan Jews, Alona has always felt deeply connected to Judaism. This tie to her family’s history and hardship imbues the piece with even deeper meaning.

More than a pendant, the Heart of David is Alona’s stand against the rise of antisemitism and her opportunity to make talking about Jewishness okay. Amid this current climate of hate, here’s a piece that was designed to spread  love.

WHY DO YOU WEAR YOUR HEART OUT?

"As the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, I was wondering how I could show up amid the recent rise of Jew hatred. What could I personally do in order to bring our community closer together and make us feel proud of our Jewish identity?"

- Alona Lisa, Founder

PARTNER

Todd Brown is a Baltimore-based fourth-generation jeweler and certified gemologist.  As someone who grew up surrounded by jewelers, he always found himself drawn to the emotional stories behind jewelry and how those stories change as a piece is passed down.

Todd credits his strong connection to Judaism today with his upbringing. In turn, he’s working to instill the same Jewish values in his own two kids, one of which is facing antisemitism first hand on her college campus.

When Alona shared her design for the Heart of David, Todd knew she was onto something. (The two actually met in high school in Baltimore.) In spite of all of the Judaica that’s out there, Todd’s never seen a piece like this before. And he loves how it brings the community together.

WHY DO YOU WEAR YOUR HEART OUT?

“Jews are only a small percentage of the world. And yet, we experience so much hate. Because of what’s happening now, we need to stand up for one another and bring our community closer together. “
